Our team at Universal Services for Carers in Derby are here to support anyone providing care to a person living in Derby City who are informal and unpaid.

‘Unpaid’ means you are not caring as a professional, for example as a community care worker, residential care worker or a nurse. If you receive Carers Allowance you are still classed as an unpaid carer as the allowance only supports you in providing the care your loved ones require.

Unpaid carers provide vital support to their family and friends, which can cause a strain on their own lives. This makes it even more important for unpaid carers to be recognised for the work they do.

What we do:



An information and advice helpline, answered by compassionate, knowledgeable, and fully trained staff, operational Mon-Fri, 09:00-17:00, excluding public holidays. The helpline also has an out of hours answerphone where you can leave us a message.



A full calendar of free well-being support and activities designed to keep unpaid carers feeling physically and mentally well, as well as providing an opportunity for respite and socialisation with others living similar lives.



A wide array of free awareness and training opportunities to enable carers to deliver the best and safest care they possibly can, for example, first aid and information about Wills and Power of Attorney



Supporting and maintaining peer support groups, including arranging events and inviting guest speakers. We will also help in the formation of unique peer support groups, tailored to specific needs.



An engaging bi monthly newsletter, filled with important information, dates for your diary, local services, and useful contacts.
